The Georgian Association of Religious Experts has announced the resignation of Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II.
According to Report's local bureau, the organization said that the issue would be discussed at the Holy Synod meeting on February 11.
The association claims that the meeting planned to remove Ilia II from the throne through certain compromises or blackmail.
The head of the Public Relations Department of the Georgian Patriarchate, Andria Jagmaidze, asked journalists not to wonder about such fantasies.
The meeting of the Holy Synod was convened by order of Ilia II. No information was provided on the issues to be discussed.
