European Parliament plans to open office in Canada, Metsola says

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola said the European Parliament planned to open a representative office in Canada.

According to Report, Metsola wrote on X that the European Parliament's Bureau had approved the opening of an office in Ottawa.

She said a stronger presence would promote parliamentary exchanges on both sides of the Atlantic, with regional outreach extending as far as the Arctic.

Metsola added that Europe and Canada were long-standing friends that were beginning a new chapter together.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to address the European Parliament on September 17 as Ottawa and the EU seek closer ties.

Carney had earlier announced plans to begin negotiations on what he described as a "unique union" with the EU.
