Zelenskyy says Ukraine ready for mutual halt to energy strikes

Ukraine is ready to comply with an agreement not to strike Russian energy and critical infrastructure if Russia reliably and consistently observes similar commitments, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

According to Report, Zelenskyy wrote on social media that if Ukraine's partners were able to ensure that Russia genuinely refrained from striking Ukraine's electricity system, other energy facilities, critical infrastructure and food transportation, Kyiv would be ready to take equivalent steps.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine had proposed that its partners secure a long-term agreement with Russia on refraining from strikes against critical infrastructure, which could become a first step toward peace.

He stressed that such an arrangement should be reliable, long-term and have a tangible impact on people's lives rather than collapse after Russia held its elections and benefited from a temporary easing of pressure regarding gasoline and diesel fuel.

The Ukrainian leader said the war needed to end and that de-escalation concerning critical infrastructure could become a first step toward peace, adding that Kyiv expected concrete proposals from its partners.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said Ukraine and Russia had agreed not to strike each other's energy facilities.
