UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced his resignation, according to Report.
Starmer said that the question was whether he was the person best placed to lead the party into the next general election. He stated that he had heard the answer of his parliamentary party to that question and accepted it with dignity.
Starmer added that he had spoken with King Charles III earlier that morning and informed him of his decision.
He said that he would ask the Labour Party"s National Executive Committee to determine the timetable for electing a new leader, noting that nominations would open on July 9 and conclude before Parliament's summer recess.
Starmer will remain prime minister until his successor is elected.
