Scandal involving former German intelligence chief raises concerns in Poland, UK

A scandal involving August Hanning, former head of Germany's Federal Intelligence Service (BND), has raised concerns among the country's foreign partners and could trigger a serious crisis of confidence in German intelligence services.

According to Report, citing Welt am Sonntag, Germany's allies fear that the incident could negatively affect intelligence sharing.

"This is an extremely alarming development that could deepen allies' growing distrust of the BND and, consequently, negatively affect intelligence sharing with Germany," said Grzegorz Malecki, former head of Poland's foreign intelligence service.

Meanwhile, Polish Minister-Coordinator of Special Services Tomasz Siemoniak described the incident as shocking. In his view, the case will serve as an example of serious intelligence failures and will be studied at specialized training institutions.

Amid the scandal, British intelligence services have launched an urgent review. London fears that the actions of the German side may have exposed British intelligence sources and active operational channels.
