Hurricane Lala hits Hawaii, leaving more than 70,000 without power

Hurricane Lala has struck Hawaii's Big Island, bringing torrential rain, flooding and landslides.
According to CBS News, cited by Report, the Category 1 storm strengthened into a hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph.
A tropical storm becomes a hurricane when its maximum sustained wind speed reaches 74 mph.
"People should stay home now," Hawaii Governor Josh Green said in a video message posted on social media.
According to the latest data from outage tracking service PowerOutage.us, about 76,000 customers across the state were without electricity, representing roughly 15% of the population.
The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency said trees had been knocked down and power lines damaged on the Big Island.
Officials said Hilo International Airport and Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport, both on the Big Island, as well as commercial ports on the Big Island and in Maui County, had been temporarily closed.
According to the state emergency management agency, about 180 Hawaii National Guard personnel have been deployed to assist with disaster response efforts.
