Neighborhood profiles enable more precise interventions in urban planning, stated by UN-Habitat representative Tarek Osseiran at an event titled "Leveraging Human Security for Integrated Urban Solutions and Housing - Lessons from UN Joint Action" organized within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku, Report informs.
According to him, UN-Habitat and UNICEF analyzed a number of neighborhoods mainly in cities hosting large numbers of Syrian refugees: "We used neighborhood profiling to understand the impact of refugees on cities and neighborhoods, as well as to identify the threats that this demographic change poses to human security - mainly in terms of lack of basic services, perhaps a safe environment, and social cohesion. So the profiles really helped us better understand the situation and plan our future interventions. This human security project was really based on the results of neighborhood profiling. Tripoli municipality was also with us, from the beginning, they were part of this type of work, and perhaps that is why this project was successful from the start and has continued until now. So, this is just to say that the profiles are very broad, touching on various issues and sectors."
