Poland to establish Europe's largest Apache helicopter service center

Poland will establish Europe's largest authorized service center for AH-64E Guardian Apache attack helicopters in the city of Lodz, Report informs via local media.

Representatives of Polish defense companies and US corporation Boeing have signed executive agreements under offset contracts.

The agreements provide for the transfer to Poland of technologies, technical knowledge and expertise required to inspect, maintain, repair and overhaul the helicopters. The total value of the contracts is approximately 440 million zlotys ($102 million).

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk had previously announced plans to establish the European service center.

According to Tusk, the project will strengthen Poland's security, accelerate the development of the country's defense industry and provide access to advanced technologies.

"Creating such a service center, which will not only service our Apaches but also play a key role for all our allies on the continent, is a real leap into the future - and into a secure future," Tusk said.

The center will be capable of servicing at least 96 Apache helicopters ordered by Poland, as well as aircraft operated by other European allies.

Tusk said the project demonstrates the high level of Polish-American cooperation and is of strategic importance for the security of Poland and the region as a whole.
