Kyrgyzstan's power system temporarily switched to isolated mode

Kyrgyzstan's power system temporarily switched to operating in isolated mode following an external outage on a high-voltage line connecting the northern and southern parts of Kazakhstan's power system, Kyrgyzstan's Ministry of Energy said in a statement, according to Report;

"On August 14, 2026, at 15:34 (local time), as a result of an external outage on the high-voltage line connecting the northern and southern parts of Kazakhstan"s power system, the Central Asian Unified Power System (CA UPS) separated into an isolated power grid. The power system of the Kyrgyz Republic temporarily switched to operating in isolated mode. To protect the equipment, the automatic protection system was activated in accordance with regulations," the statement said.

The situation is currently under control of energy specialists. Experts are taking the necessary measures to stabilize the operating conditions and restore the normal power supply configuration.

The Ministry of Energy noted that there are currently no disconnected subscribers and that consumers continue to receive uninterrupted electricity.

Additional information on the cause of the brief power disruptions will be provided later.

It should be noted that power outages have been reported in several Central Asian countries. Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have reported electricity disruptions in certain regions. In Kazakhstan, the outages were caused by a sharp change in electricity flows from the Central Asian power system, which triggered the emergency protection system.
