US President Donald Trump has directed the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) to impose a 25% tariff on most Brazilian imports, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a post on X, Report informs.
Rubio said the decision was made because Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and his government had not negotiated with the United States in good faith.
According to Rubio, Lula's economic policies are harmful to both Americans and Brazilians.
He said Lula had put his own interests ahead of reaching an agreement for the benefit of the Brazilian people over the past year, adding that the tariffs were the consequence of that approach.
