The Japanese government reshuffle, previously scheduled by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, is set to take place on September 17. A day earlier, changes will also be made to the leadership of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), which is headed by Takaichi.
According to Report, which cites Kyodo, Toshiharu Furukawa could become a government minister for the first time. Hideki Murai may become chairman of the LDP's Diet Affairs Committee.
Many of the current leaders are expected to retain their positions, including LDP Secretary-General Shunichi Suzuki, who plays a key role in the party's day-to-day management. He is the brother of Taro Aso's wife. Aso is one of the LDP's most influential figures and actively supported Takaichi's election as party leader and prime minister in 2025.
Takaichi also needs Aso's support in the 2027 elections.
