India reports first 6 cases of new Covid strain

India has reported the first six cases of mutant coronavirus strain as six returnees from the United Kingdom tested positive, the health ministry said on Tuesday, Report states, citing TASS.
The mutated UK strain was detected in NIMHANS, Bengaluru, in CCMB, Hyderabad, and NIV, Pune.
"The situation is under careful watch, and regular advice is being provided to the states for enhanced surveillance, containment, testing and dispatch of samples to INSACOG labs," the ministry said.
According to the information, nearly 33,000 passengers arrived at various Indian airports from the UK from November 25 to December 23, 2020. Of those, 114 tested positive for coronavirus.
India has suspended all flights with the UK since December 23 due to the new strain of coronavirus.
