Hungarian parliament elects Andras Baka as new president

Hungary's parliament has elected former Supreme Court President Andras Baka as the country's new president, Report informs via Nepszava.
Baka's candidacy was supported by 140 lawmakers, while six voted against. There were no abstentions.
Earlier, Hungary's ruling Tisza party nominated Andras Baka as its candidate for president.
Baka took the presidential oath and will assume office on August 19. Until then, the duties of head of state will be performed by National Assembly Speaker Agnes Forsthoffer.
Baka served as president of Hungary's Supreme Court from 2009 to 2011. Earlier, from 1991 to 2007, he served as a judge at the European Court of Human Rights.
There were no other candidates for the presidency. Representatives of the opposition Fidesz party did not participate in the vote.
