Canada, Europe to allocate $250B for defense in two years

Canada and European countries will direct an additional $250 billion toward military spending over the next two years, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.

Rutte highlighted that Europeans are increasing their capabilities at an astonishing pace, and within two years, they will see Canada and Europe provide an additional $250 billion in funding for defense needs.

He also pointed out that the upcoming NATO summit, scheduled for July 7–8 in Ankara, will focus on fulfilling commitments made a year earlier.

The Secretary General added that last year's summit in The Hague focused on pledges.

The current summit will concentrate on implementing those commitments in terms of financing, strengthening the defense‑industrial base, and assistance to Ukraine, Rutte noted.
