Uzbek Railways: BTK railway one of Middle Corridor's key strategic segments

The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is one of the key strategic segments of the Middle Corridor, First Deputy Chairman of Uzbekistan Railways Hikmat Rakhmatov said while speaking about the important role of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway project in the development of the Middle Corridor, Report informs.

He noted that through this project, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye have created important infrastructure for faster and more reliable freight transportation from East to West.

"Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye have formed an important route that ensures the shortest and most reliable transportation of cargo from East to West. This route makes it possible to deliver containers, wagons and other cargo to Europe," Rakhmatov said.

He stressed that the project, which was launched in 2007, has now become a transport corridor of strategic importance for the region.

"Today, this project has an annual cargo capacity of 5 million tons. This is a very significant indicator for the Middle Corridor," he added.

The Uzbek official emphasized that his country is also actively participating in the Middle Corridor and gaining access to European markets through various routes, adding that the project expands economic opportunities for countries in the region.

Rakhmatov specifically noted Azerbaijan's role in the project, saying it has made important contributions to the development of BTK.
