A panel discussion titled "From Global Housing Finance to Local Action on Affordable Housing: Leveraging Global Development Finance and Subnational Financing" has begun as part of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13).
According to Report, the session will examine specific data on housing operations implemented with the support of international financial institutions (IFIs). Particular attention will be given to the upgrading of informal settlements, post-conflict reconstruction efforts, and national housing programs with significant subnational implementation components.
Participants are expected to explore which financial instruments, implementation models, and institutional approaches have proven most effective. The discussion will also identify critical bottlenecks that continue to exist throughout the project cycle - from preparation and design to implementation and monitoring.
A second forward-looking panel will focus on improving cities' readiness to attract and effectively utilize development financing.
Topics under discussion include strengthening municipal creditworthiness, creating portfolios of bankable projects, and adapting IFI instruments to the realities of incremental and community-based housing construction at the local level.
It should be noted that more than 40,000 participants from 182 countries have registered for the forum, which will continue until May 22.
