Ensuring housing is one of the most serious challenges in the world, while rapid urbanization, climate change, rising living costs and pressure on infrastructure are creating new tasks for states.
Report informs that MP Nigar Mammadova said this at a roundtable held as part of WUF13 in Baku.
She noted that building sustainable and inclusive cities is no longer just a matter of urban planning, but a matter of social justice, economic development, environmental security and human well-being.
"In the cities of the future, the level of civilization will be measured not by the number of skyscrapers, but by the readiness to provide everyone with safe and secure housing. The role of parliaments in this process is especially important: they form the legislative framework, approve the state budget, oversee the government and represent citizens' interests," she said.
Mammadova added that the restoration projects implemented by Azerbaijan in the territories liberated from occupation are shaping a new model of modern and sustainable urban planning.
"The concepts of 'smart city' and ‘smart village,' green energy solutions and digital governance systems demonstrate how the cities of the future should be built. At the same time, the development of the Middle Corridor is creating a new urban and economic transformation in the region. This initiative makes an important contribution to urban development, expanding logistics opportunities and strengthening international cooperation," she added.
