Qatar considers long-term LNG deals with US companies

Qatar is considering signing long-term agreements to purchase liquefied natural gas (LNG) from US companies.

According to Report, citing Bloomberg and informed sources, QatarEnergy's interest in gas supplies from the United States is linked to the need for alternative supply channels to meet its obligations to customers.

The sources said Qatar previously accounted for around one-fifth of global LNG supplies. However, those shipments have virtually come to a complete halt since the United States launched military operations against Iran.

The disruption has been caused by the inability of tankers to safely pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
