Artificial intelligence (AI) should support human rights, not reinforce inequality, Pakistan's Federal Ombudsman Naveed Kamran Baloch said during a panel session at the International Ombudsman Summit in Baku, Report informs.
"AI should help humans in decision-making, not replace them. Technologies can increase efficiency but cannot substitute wisdom. They can analyze data and accelerate processes, but they cannot replace empathy," he noted.
He added that the future of artificial intelligence is defined not only by technological progress but also by societal values.
Baloch emphasized that AI can become a powerful tool for development, but its impact depends on the principles guiding its application: "If we place human rights at the center of innovation, AI will become a strong instrument for inclusivity, transparency, and improved governance. If we ignore these principles, the same technology could deepen inequality and erode public trust."
He stressed that the main challenge lies not in the use of technology itself but in its responsible application: "States must establish clear legal and ethical frameworks that ensure transparency, accountability, and protection of fundamental rights. Technology developers must build fair, safe, and non-discriminatory systems. Civil society should raise awareness and promote responsible use of new technologies."
