The Indian strain of coronavirus 2-3 times reduces the immune response in those vaccinated against the virus and those who have recovered from the disease, said Denis Logunov, deputy director of Russia's Gamaleya National Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology, Report informs referring to TASS.
“The Indian strain is quite important today. It has two key mutations in the receptor-binding domain, and these two key mutations significantly reduce the activity of the sera in vaccinated and recovered patients. This is not a critical decrease, but about 2-3 times. Accordingly, if immunity is critically reduced and the strain changes, this can cause infections, albeit infrequent ones,” he said.
