Youssef Hosni: Morocco intends to eliminate slums by 2030

Morocco plans to completely eliminate slums in the country by 2030, stated the Secretary General of the Ministry of Territory Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and City Policy of Morocco, Youssef Hosni, at an event within the framework of WUF13 in Baku, Report informs.

According to him, over the past 25 years, the country has managed to reduce the housing deficit by 75% and the number of slums by 80%.

Hosni noted that the Moroccan authorities have implemented a number of reforms, including the use of state-owned land for housing construction, the introduction of new financing mechanisms, and the active involvement of the private sector.

According to him, with state support, private companies have built more than 720,000 social housing units.

He also reported that a Housing Solidarity Fund has been established in the country, financed through a tax on cement. The fund's resources are directed toward eliminating slums and modernizing urban areas.

In addition, Morocco has introduced state guarantees and interest rate reduction mechanisms to expand public access to housing loans.
