Netherlands counting on interparliamentary consultations with Azerbaijan

The Netherlands expects to hold interparliamentary consultations with Azerbaijan in the near future, Dutch Ambassador to Azerbaijan Marianne de Jong said at a press briefing today, commenting on the recent adoption by her country's parliament of anti-Azerbaijani documents affecting the country's sovereignty and the peace process with Armenia, Report informs.

The ambassador confirmed that she had been summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry in connection with these documents.

Marianne de Jong emphasized that the official position of the Dutch government on the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia is "very balanced."

"We're talking to both countries, we're supporting both countries in the process of achieving peace in this region, which is so important. My minister (Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen – ed.) said: I'm talking to both countries, I support the peace process. So, for me, nothing has changed. For the government, nothing has changed. Therefore, I hope this won't affect intergovernmental relations. And we hope to organize interparliamentary consultations. I think this would be a great opportunity to talk, to give parliamentary representatives the opportunity to communicate with each other," the ambassador said.
