Budgeting is a crucial factor in urban planning, Maimunah Mohd Sharif, former Mayor of Kuala Lumpur and former Executive Director of UN-Habitat, stated during a panel session at the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.
Mohd Sharif said that when discussing urban planning, the structure of the financial system must also be considered: "For this purpose, allocating an annual budget would be more appropriate. In Malaysia, we have a dedicated agency dealing with housing provision. Similar agencies could be established in other countries. At this point, governance must also be managed properly."
She added that she is ready to adapt the topics discussed and conclusions reached at WUF13 to her own country.
