Azerbaijan and Cambodia share similar approaches to addressing post-conflict urban reconstruction and development, Cambodian Land Minister Say Sam Al said in an interview with Report on the sidelines of WUF13.
Citing his country's experience as an example, the minister noted that urban reconstruction is an extremely complex process.
"You can't just leave a city to develop on its own. We have clear spatial planning for cities throughout Cambodia," said Say.
According to him, the Cambodian government allocated land and housing for internally displaced persons left homeless after the wars and genocide of the Khmer Rouge.
"The government had a preferential policy in this regard," the minister emphasized.
He also noted that the Cambodian authorities have invested in education, healthcare, and the financial well-being of the population.
Speaking about his visit to Baku, Say Sam Al emphasized that this is not his first visit to Azerbaijan.
"I've been to Baku many times, and I really like this city," he said, adding that over the years of his visits, he's noticed significant changes in the urban environment and approaches to urban planning.
"The city has changed significantly, and so has urban planning," the minister concluded.
