Solar power plant in Azerbaijan's Gobustan preparing for commissioning

Construction of the 100 MW Gobustan solar photovoltaic power plant in Azerbaijan's Gobustan district has entered its final phase, Report informs.

The move was announced following a site visit by Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and his accompanying delegation.

The minister, along with Javid Abdullayev, Director of the Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency, and Samir Akhundov, Chairman of the Board of the Energy Regulatory Agency, inspected the progress of construction.

During the visit, attention was paid to the final stage of the project-the 110/35 kV substation-as well as preparations for the upcoming launch ceremony.

"The facility is currently fully prepared for power transmission, and all construction work is proceeding according to the established schedule," noted a statement from the Chinese company Universal Energy, the general contractor and investor in the project.

According to available information, the power plant will be commissioned within 1.5-2 months and will generate approximately 260 million kWh of electricity annually.

Shahbazov emphasized the significant progress achieved during construction.

The minister stated that the successful implementation of the project will significantly contribute to the optimization of the country's energy balance.

He also added that the Azerbaijani side intends to continue supporting the project and expressed its readiness to welcome Universal Energy's participation in additional investment initiatives and promising joint projects in the field of renewable energy.

The first-ever renewable energy auction in Azerbaijan was held in 2024.

The auction was for the construction of a 100 MW solar photovoltaic power plant in Gobustan.

The Chinese company Universal International Holdings Limited won the auction.
