A new 220-kilovolt substation has been built to supply the Sangachal terminal with green energy, and the work has already been completed.
Report informs that Balababa Rzayev, chairman of AzerEnergy OJSC, said this on May 9 while briefing President Ilham Aliyev on the work carried out at the opening of the Shafag substation.
According to him, as a result of this innovation, the gas-fired power plant at the terminal will be shut down, and solar energy generated in Jabrayil will be fed into the national power system and then directed in a balanced manner to the Sangachal terminal as well.
"By shutting down the 140 MW modular gas-fired power plant at the Sangachal terminal and meeting 500 million kWh of the terminal's annual demand through renewable energy, more than 120-150 million cubic meters of natural gas will be saved annually. This will also contribute to reducing CO2 emissions from BP's operational waste in the Caspian region by 260,000-330,000 tonnes per year," he said.
