The pilot project in Guinea-Bissau will be the first practical application of a partnership model developed in close cooperation with the country's government and relevant partners, Azerbaijan's Presidential Representative for Climate Issues Mukhtar Babayev said at a roundtable held as part of Baku Climate Action Week 2026 (BCAW 2026).
According to him, the project will focus on strengthening national capacity and coordination in addressing climate change, as well as supporting the preparation of climate projects.
"The experience gained through this pilot project can also provide a practical and replicable model for other vulnerable and fragile countries," Babayev emphasized.
According to him, such countries often face significant barriers to accessing climate finance. In this regard, the Baku Hub for Climate and Peace was established to support vulnerable and fragile countries. The hub brings together the governments of beneficiary countries, climate funds, multilateral development banks, UN agencies, development partners and the private sector.
Babayev also noted that Azerbaijan is committed to advancing the climate and peace agenda and maintaining the spirit of solidarity with Africa.
