The genetic identification of human remains exposed to various external factors over many years is a complex process, but modern methods and the high level of specialist expertise make it possible to overcome these challenges, Jamila Bayramova, Chief Specialist at the Genetic Research Center at the Main Military Medical Department of Azerbaijan's State Security Service (SSS), said at an event dedicated to the identification of missing persons, Report informs.
Bayramova noted that specialists primarily work with bone samples that have been exposed to different environmental conditions for long periods. She added that the passage of time, soil characteristics, temperature fluctuations, and other factors can cause DNA degradation, making research more difficult and requiring a specialized approach.
According to her, genetic analyses, including the use of advanced DNA technologies, play a crucial role in such cases.
The official added that despite challenges in obtaining reference samples, experts continue the identification process by utilizing available resources and scientific methods.
The specialist emphasized that professional training, the application of modern scientific techniques, and an individual approach to each sample enable experts to successfully resolve complex cases.
