The birth rate in Azerbaijan has been declining over the past years, according to a public opinion poll and sociological survey "Family relations in Azerbaijan: socio-psychological analysis" conducted jointly by the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs and the Center for Social Research.
"Thus, the decrease in the number of large families and the increase in only-child families are worrying trends. The socio-psychological reasons for the rise in single-child families are also at the forefront. The decrease in the number of children in the family indicates a certain violation of the reproductive and educational functions of the family," the survey says.
