A new gas-condensate field, Karatau, has been discovered following geological exploration work in the central part of Uzbekistan's Ustyurt region.
According to Report, citing Uzbekneftegaz, exploration well No. 1 was drilled to a depth of 4,860 meters at the Karatau area in the Muynak district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
During testing on October 3, a commercially viable flow of natural gas and condensate was obtained from Lower Jurassic deposits located at depths between 3,213 and 3,273 meters.
The company plans to complete drilling of exploration well No. 2 by the end of this year, while drilling of exploration wells No. 3 and No. 4 is also scheduled to begin.
The geological results obtained at the Karatau field are expected to help identify new promising directions for geological exploration of deep formations in the Ustyurt region.
