The adoption of a new constitution for Armenia remains on the agenda of the ruling Civil Contract Party, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in an address to the nation on Constitution Day, Report informs.
He stressed the need to adapt the country's constitution to modern challenges. According to Pashinyan, since Armenia gained independence, the organic link between the rule of law and the will of the people has been broken, and the state has therefore not been perceived as a tool for ensuring citizens' security and freedom.
"The main significance of the constitution lies not only in establishing legal order and constitutional order in the country, but also in ensuring the genetic and organic link between this order and the founder of the state, the sovereign - that is, the people," he said.
The prime minister said the executive branch and the ruling majority are actively working to correct this situation through the policy pursued since 2024, which won public support in the latest parliamentary elections held on June 7, 2026.
