Georgia protests Russia-Tskhinvali agreement at Geneva talks

At the 67th round of the Geneva International Discussions, Georgia's delegation voiced strong protest against the so‑called agreement signed between Russia and the Tskhinvali occupation regime, the Georgian Foreign Ministry said, according to Report's Georgia Bureau.

The talks were held June 30–July 1 under the leadership of Deputy Foreign Minister Lasha Darsalia.

The Georgian side expressed serious concern over the "agreement on deepening allied cooperation" signed on May 9, 2026, between Russia and the Tskhinvali regime, stressing that such documents are legally void, grossly violate international law, and obstruct constructive dialogue.

The delegation emphasized the importance of Russia fulfilling its obligations under the EU‑mediated ceasefire agreement of August 12, 2008, and demanded safe and dignified return of internally displaced persons and refugees.

Issues of security, humanitarian conditions, and human rights in the occupied territories were raised, along with Russia's and the regime's actions. Georgia also highlighted the need to restore the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) without preconditions and ensure its regular functioning in Gali and Ergneti.

The Foreign Ministry noted that, as in previous rounds, Russian and regime representatives refused to discuss the return of displaced persons and refugees.

The next, 68th round of the Geneva International Discussions is scheduled for November 10–11, 2026.
