Erdogan, Putin may meet again after Turkish leader's UN contacts

Presidents of Turkiye and Russia Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Vladimir Putin may hold a new meeting after the Turkish leader's contacts at the UN, where a high-level week of the organization's General Assembly will be held on September 19-25, pro-government newspaper Hürriyet reported.

Report informs citing TASS that Erdogan reacted positively to Putin's proposal at the talks in Sochi on September 4 on the supply of 1 million tons of grain to African countries.

"From Putin's statements, we concluded that negotiations on the grain corridor will continue for some time. Both leaders may meet again after Erdogan's contacts at the UN," writes Abdulkadir Selvi, a columnist for the publication close to the Turkish presidential administration.

"Erdogan spoke very clearly about the grain corridor. He noted that he hopes for the success of the package of proposals [on the resumption of the grain deal] prepared together with the UN. This will take time," he said.

According to a local diplomatic source, Turkiye will inform the UN in the coming days about the results of the talks in Sochi between the presidents of the two countries on the resumption of the Black Sea grain initiative.

Speaking on September 4 at a press conference in Sochi after talks with Putin, Erdogan said that Ankara, together with the UN, has prepared a new set of initiatives with the aim of resuming the Black Sea grain initiative and hopes for its positive consideration.
