Vance: Iran agrees to invite IAEA inspectors

Iran has agreed to invite inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency into the country, US Vice President JD Vance said following talks with the Iranian side in Bürgenstock, Switzerland.

According to Clash Report, cited by Report, speaking after the negotiations, Vance said he expected the inspectors' visit to take place this week.

"I expect that to happen at least this week, but we believe that some of these discussions with the inspectors and the IAEA could even begin today," he said.

Addressing the ongoing US-Iran negotiations, Vance noted that technical experts would continue their work under the previously signed memorandum of understanding.

"We have laid the foundation. We have not built the house yet, but we have laid a successful foundation," Vance said. "I cannot stay here for the next 60 days. I am returning to the United States. But the technical experts will continue working.

"We wanted to create a mechanism that would keep the Strait of Hormuz open. It is open. We wanted to ensure that if conflicts arise-as they inevitably do-we would have a mechanism to resolve them," he said.

Vance also commented on Israeli military operations in Lebanon, stating that the Israeli side had made clear it had no territorial ambitions in southern Lebanon.

"The reason they believe they need to be there is their concern about Hezbollah militants in southern Lebanon. We believe it is possible to reach a situation in which Lebanon's territorial integrity and Israel's security are both protected," he said.

According to Vance, the situation in Lebanon over the previous 24 hours had likely been "the most peaceful it has been in a long time."
