Serbia to amend four election-related laws in line with OSCE recommendations

Serbia is expected to adopt amendments and additions to four laws by the end of May in line with recommendations from the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) on improving election conditions, Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic said, Report's Balkan bureau informs.

Brnabic also said amendments to the law on preventing corruption are expected to be sent to ODIHR for review in the coming days.

She noted that public discussions will be held during the May 1 holiday in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis and Kragujevac on amendments to laws on local elections, the election of members of parliament and the Constitutional Court, as well as changes to one article of the law on presidential elections.

According to her, the bills will then be ready to be submitted for discussion at a parliamentary session.

"We have been waiting for a response from ODIHR since March 13 on proposed amendments to the law on financing political activities. This is also one of the important laws and sets limits on spending during election campaigns," Brnabic said.

The speaker stressed that intensive work has been carried out since 2019 to implement ODIHR recommendations and that election conditions are being continuously improved.
