The biased statements by New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani on the social network X regarding the so-called Armenian genocide of 1915 and Azerbaijan's efforts to restore its territorial integrity and sovereignty have sparked a sharp reaction from Azerbaijanis in the diaspora around the world.
As per Report, a petition has been launched at the initiative of the Azerbaijani-American Youth Federation, aimed at objectively informing the world public and ensuring an impartial approach by international organizations to this issue.
The petition notes that such biased approaches raise concern at a time when the United States supports a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia and important steps are being taken toward the normalization of relations.
The petition also cites the assessment of the UN mission sent to Karabakh on October 2, 2023, according to which no cases of violence against the civilian population or damage to civilian infrastructure in these territories were identified.
The petition specifically highlights the shelling of Azerbaijani cities during the 44-day war, including Ganja, Barda, and Tartar, as well as the Khojaly tragedy of 1992.
The petition also calls for an objective position based on the UN Charter, Security Council resolutions, and norms of international law.

It is noted that several countries, including the United States, Canada, Israel, the United Kingdom, and European countries, as well as diaspora coordination councils have issued statements against the mayor's remarks and sent appeals to US President Donald Trump and New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani.
