The Russia-Ukraine war will not be resolved by buying or rejecting oil and other expensive resources, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said at a press conference during his visit to Kyiv on September 3, Report's Eastern European bureau informs.
Jaishankar noted that India itself faces challenges in ensuring energy supplies for its population.
"I believe you understand the complexity of providing energy to 1.4 billion people. The global energy situation is very complicated. Ukraine has its own position on this issue, and India respects it. We also expect our position to be respected," he said.
The Indian foreign minister said the war would be resolved through diplomacy and negotiations.
"This conflict, which has been going on for nearly five years, will not be resolved based on whether someone buys or does not buy oil, alumina, minerals, metals or fertilizers. This conflict will be resolved through dialogue, diplomacy and negotiations, and that is precisely why we support negotiations," he said.
