Erdogan: Türkiye ready to mediate in ending conflict between Israel and Iran

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian, stated that Ankara is ready to mediate in the earliest possible end to Tehran's conflict with Israel and return to negotiations on Iran's nuclear program, Report informs via the TRT Haber TV channel.

"President Erdogan said that he had a number of contacts with foreign leaders regarding the conflict between Israel and Iran and that Türkiye is ready to act as a mediator for the earliest possible end to the conflict and return to negotiations on the nuclear program," the TV channel's message states.

Erdogan also told the Iranian president that "Türkiye attaches great importance to maintaining peace and stability in the region."

The presidents of Türkiye and Iran had previously spoken by phone on June 14.

Israel began Operation "Rising Lion" on the night of June 13, targeting Iran's nuclear program. Less than a day later, the Islamic republic carried out a retaliatory attack. In the following days, Israel and Iran exchanged strikes again. Both sides reported casualties and injuries as a result of these attacks, acknowledged hits on several facilities on their territories, but stated that the damage was limited.
