An international team of archaeologists has confirmed after excavations that a meteorite destroyed the ancient city of Tall el-Hammam in Jordan, Report informs via foreign media.
The meteorite detonated 3,600 years ago with 1,000 times more energy than the Hiroshima atomic bomb. The explosion resulted in a temperature rise over 2,000 Celsius degrees and the destruction of life within a radius of tens of kilometers.
Scientists have discovered artificial diamond grains formed only by a strong impact while excavating a mixed layer of soil, consisting of burnt structures, pottery, and rock remains. It confirmed that the meteorite exploded over the city.
