Vahid Hajiyev: Social, economic factors in housing policy are inseparable

Social and economic factors in housing policy are inseparable, Vahid Hajiyev, Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan in Jabrayil, Gubadli, and Zangilan districts, said during the event themed In Search of Best Solutions for Sustainable Housing and Resilient Cities: Voices of Cities held at the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, according to Report.

The official highlighted that reconstruction in the liberated territories is being carried out entirely from scratch, which allows for proper planning of projects: "We believe that social and economic functions in housing policy must not be separated. Housing is not only a social right and physical shelter, but also a driving force of economic activity. Sustainable development is impossible without social inclusion, and successful settlement cannot be ensured without creating economic opportunities."

Hajiyev pointed out that in a post-conflict environment, housing provision is the first visible sign of return and the foundation of restoring public trust.

"In the smart cities and villages being built in Karabakh, both social and economic development elements are taken into account. Schools, healthcare, and sports facilities are being established; solar panels are installed on rooftops; and special bicycle lanes are being constructed. Economic development is one of the key conditions for sustainable settlement, and for this purpose, work is underway to create free economic zones around cities and villages," he said.
