Currently, 215,000 internally displaced persons are living in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said during an event held within the framework of WUF13 in Baku.
According to him, despite the war, 1.3 million people are currently living in the city.
"These people came from the Donetsk Oblast, Luhansk Oblast, Zaporizhzhia Oblast, and Kherson Oblast regions. They chose Kharkiv as their home. One of the main tasks is to ensure that people can return to their own cities," he said.
He noted that the city's Master Plan was developed jointly with the Norman Foster Foundation.
"The project is being implemented with the support of the United Nations and the government of Germany. The next phase of the project provides for the restoration of the northern part of the city. Leading architects from the United Kingdom, France, and Türkiye participated in this project. For me, the most important point is that Ukrainian architects are also taking part in this process," he said.
