Abdi: Drought, forced displacement in Africa affect urban planning systems

In Somalia and many regions across Africa, droughts, floods, forced displacement, and environmental pressure directly affect housing security as well as urban planning systems, Somali representative Bushra Ahmed Abdi said during an event held within the framework of WUF13 in Baku.

Report quotes her as saying that the main priority in African countries is the practical and inclusive improvement of access to land and basic services.

"In many cases, the problem lies not only in the shortage of housing, but also, as noted, in the lack of property rights, drainage systems, roads, sanitation, water supply, and climate-resilient infrastructure. Climate resilience is also becoming increasingly urgent," she said.
