Turkic World Week gets underway in Azerbaijan

The opening ceremony of Turkic World Week, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the First Turkology Congress, has kicked off in Baku, Report informs.

The event, which runs through July 3, features a series of international scientific and cultural activities.

Following the official opening, participants will attend a plenary session titled "The Turkic World as One Family: Activities of International Turkic Cooperation Organizations for Common Goals," along with panel discussions on the development of Turkic languages from historical and philological perspectives and the legacy of the First Turkology Congress in promoting the cultural and scientific integration of Turkic peoples.

A total of 215 guests from 20 countries are taking part in the event.

The week-long program is being held in accordance with a decree signed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on October 22, 2025, marking the 100th anniversary of the First Turkology Congress.

Turkic World Week is jointly organized by Azerbaijan's Ministry of Culture, the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, and the Ministry of Science and Education, in partnership with the Organization of Turkic States, TURKSOY, Baku State University, the Turkic Academy, and the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation.

The First Turkology Congress was originally held in Baku in 1926. President Ilham Aliyev proposed commemorating its centenary during the 12th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States, held in Gabala on October 6–7 last year.
