Viktor Yushchenko: ‘Thanks to Erdogan, the Turkish state and nation have obtained a solid international status and reputation’

I believe that thanks to Erdogan, the Turkish state and nation have obtained a solid international status and reputation, Viktor Yushchenko, former President of Ukraine, told Report.

He said that it’s Türkiye’s internal affair how Erdogan pursues policy: "For this, there should be a strong opposition in the country, and Türkiye has this. In my opinion, Erdogan's international reputation is quite high. Especially his position regarding Azerbaijan is clearer and correct. Thanks to this position of Türkiye, Azerbaijan has gained a strong partner that helped restore its territorial integrity, which was a big problem."

The former president also touched upon the relations between Türkiye and Ukraine: “Erdogan's actions regarding the Grain Corridor alone showed how strong a leader and decision-maker he is. It is the result of a strong character to organize the transportation of Ukrainian grain to the world market amid the war. The organization of this corridor by Türkiye was a great support not only to Ukraine but to most countries that need grain.”

Yushchenko also highly appreciated Türkiye’s delivery of Bayraktar drones to Ukraine: "This was a unique decision made by Türkiye. Not only the delivery of drones but also the construction of its plant here is an extremely unique decision. Thanks to Erdogan for this. Only Erdogan can make such decisions in Türkiye. Look how many European leaders made phone calls to Vladimir Putin immediately after the war started in our country. They just talked, but Erdogan did practical work. He has an extraordinary political system. As I said, he is a politician who can make the best decisions."
