Türkiye explores alternative energy routes bypassing Hormuz

Türkiye has drafted five alternative routes for oil and gas supply, bypassing the Strait of Hormuz amid the tensions around Iran, says the newspaper Türkiye, citing the Turkish Ministry of Trade.

According to Minister Omer Bolat, Ankara is taking active steps to launch alternative logistics routes, which could be a vital solution for both energy producers and consumers, especially during times of crisis.

According to the publication, several energy transportation routes from the Gulf region are being considered. These include overland deliveries through Iraq and Syria, a combined route via the Suez Canal, the Red Sea, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, as well as a route from the port of Oman to the UAE and other countries in the region.

In addition, the Cape of Good Hope route is listed as one of the options, but it is considered less profitable because it increases delivery time by 10-15 days and raises transportation costs.

According to previous reports, Türkiye, Egypt and Saudi Arabia are exploring the possibility of creating a consortium to coordinate the transportation of oil products from the Strait of Hormuz.
