Nearly 700 people executed in Iran over past year

A new analysis by Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO) shows that in the year following the outbreak of the “Women, Life, Freedom'' nationwide protests in Iran, Islamic Republic authorities have used the death penalty to instill societal fear in order to prevent further protests, Report informs, citing IHRNGO.
Between September 2022 and September 2023, authorities executed at least 697 people, a 36% increase compared to the same period the previous year.
Thus, seven protesters were among those executed. Furthermore, 10 protesters remain under death sentences and 82 are facing death penalty charges or sentences.
