Trump: Replacing Infantino would be a mistake for FIFA

US President Donald Trump said that FIFA would be making a terrible mistake "if, for any reason, they even considered replacing President Gianni Infantino."

According to Report, the US leader said in a post on Truth Social that Infantino successfully oversaw the organization of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which, in his assessment, was significantly more successful than previous tournaments. Trump stressed that FIFA should not consider replacing him.

Earlier, the New York Post reported that Trump would like to see Infantino serve as the next Secretary-General of the United Nations. According to the publication, the FIFA president grew closer to the US president during the World Cup, which was held in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

In early August, the newspaper also reported that Infantino was seeking the support of the US administration to retain his position. He faced criticism after proposing to sell a stake in the rights to the World Cup to private investors. Infantino later abandoned the idea.
