Iran backs Hamas stance in Gaza talks, Pezeshkian says

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has told Hamas Political Bureau chief Khalil al-Hayya that Tehran will support the group's position in the ongoing negotiations over the Gaza Strip.

According to Al Jazeera, Pezeshkian made the remarks during a telephone conversation with al-Hayya.

"Iran will support all measures, initiatives and decisions adopted by the Palestinian leadership during the course of the negotiations," Pezeshkian said.

Last week, US President Donald Trump said Hamas had agreed to disarm following negotiations involving the Peace Council, as well as Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye.

Israel has maintained that it will not withdraw its forces until Hamas is fully disarmed, while the Palestinian group insists it will only disarm after Israeli forces leave Gaza.
