Amiran Giorgadze: Heydar Aliyev is a highly respected figure in Georgia

Heydar Aliyev is a highly respected figure in Georgia, Marneuli Municipal Council Chairman Amiran Giorgadze told Report.

Giorgadze said Heydar Aliyev, a great friend of Georgia, played an important role in maintaining peace in the Caucasus.

According to him, the friendship between Heydar Aliyev and Georgia's then-leader Eduard Shevardnadze in the 1990s was exemplary, and it was during that period that a number of major economic and other projects were implemented in Georgia.

"These projects made an important contribution to Georgia's development. We are grateful and thankful for the respect and friendship shown to us by Heydar Aliyev and the Azerbaijani people. I would also like to note that Heydar Aliyev is greatly respected in Georgia. The presence of his bust in Tbilisi today is an indicator of this," he said.
