UN Security Council to hold emergency meeting on Yemen

The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on the situation in Yemen on September 10 at the request of Bahrain and the United Kingdom, Report informs, citing in a statement published on the UN Security Council's website.

UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg is expected to address the meeting. Saudi Arabia and Yemen will participate in the meeting in accordance with Rule 37 of the Security Council's Provisional Rules of Procedure.

The meeting will be held amid an escalation between the Houthi movement, also known as Ansar Allah, and Yemeni government forces, as well as strikes on Saudi Arabian territory by the group's fighters following a period of relative calm established after the UN-mediated truce reached in 2022.
